Logically, what Ozpin is saying is very reasonable and straightforward. Ford and Stan's combat abilities are significant only by vanilla human standards, and Dipper and Mabel's have the added caveat of only being impressive for their particular age group among vanilla humans. There's minimal aid he can give to Ozpin in a fight against someone who's presumably an even match for him, and the less attention that's drawn to his family the better.
Even so, Ford doesn't like it. He doesn't miss that tone of forced calm and he's suddenly aware of how distant and preoccupied Oz has been for the past week - a lingering bad mood from the Lab, Ford had assumed, but maybe not. Whatever the cause, Ford doesn't want to leave Ozpin alone right now. ]
