Stanley Pines

Twin Brother

"Are you sayin' you need someone to help you sail around the world in the adventure of a lifetime?"

Ford's twin brother. The two of them were estranged for most of Ford's life, with Ford dismissing Stan as a selfish idiot whose only talents were lying, cheating, and mooching off other people. Now, Ford realizes that Stan is an incredibly selfless man willing to sacrifice anything and everything for his family, up to and including his own mind. Ford has come to deeply regret both his previous mindset and their estrangement and has promised himself that he'll spend 'the rest of his days' repairing their relationship. Deerington has thrown some interesting wrenches into that plan.

Dipper Pines
Gravity Falls
[personal profile] ghostharasser
Nephew

"You think you can scare me!? Do your worst! Nothing in this universe is gonna take away my uncle! So go ahead! Give me what you've got!"

Ford's nephew and a neurotic, anxious wreck of a child, but also someone that's brave, driven, loyal, intelligent, and wise beyond his years. Ford sees an incredible amount of potential Dipper and wants to help him reach it through whatever means necessary. In the meantime, though, Ford is already overwhelmingly proud of him. Though he sees a kindred spirit in Dipper, he's relieved to see that Dipper is much less foolish than Ford was and clearly understands the importance of family.

Mabel Pines
Gravity Falls
[personal profile] sparklehorror
Niece

"Thanks, Grunkle Ford, but today I learned that morality is relative!"

Ford's niece and Dipper's twin sister. Mabel is a bright, exuberant, creative girl and, much like Dipper, Ford thinks the world of her. Despite that he hasn't always treated her fairly, and he's very aware of the fact that his behavior towards her played a major role in Weirdmageddon playing out the way he did. Thanks to a memory exchange with Dipper, he's also had a chance to witness her distress over Ford offering Dipper (and just Dipper) an apprenticeship. To say he feels guilty about the whole situation is a significant understatement, but it's not something either of them have discussed yet.

Bill Cipher
Gravity Falls
[personal profile] tetractys
It's Complicated

"We'll meet again. Don't know where, don't know when. But I know we'll meet again some sunny day."

Ford thinks his relationship with Bill is straightforward and simple: Bill is a monster and Ford wants nothing to do with him. Of course, it's not that easy and never could be. While Bill has caused Ford and his family a great deal of harm, there was a time where Ford considered him a close friend. Bill is bad news and Ford knows this, but Ford can never completely move on from everything that happened - especially not with Bill present in Deerington and sharing interesting new bits of knowledge with him.

Fern
Adventure Time
[personal profile] laminae

Some sort of fascinating half-plant person. Though Ford is still of the opinion that Fern is probably still a little too gung-ho about combat and dangerous situations, he's still willing to consider Fern a trustworthy ally. Fern's friendship with both Dipper and Stan just reinforces that opinion.
Willow Rosenberg
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
[personal profile] frogfear

A magically gifted young woman that blames Ford for Ozpin's death, and made a sincere effort to murder Ford as a result. He can't say he blames her (in fact, he agrees that it was his fault) and she did apologize afterwards. Still, their relationship is a little strange and a little strained.
Syaoran Li
Cardcaptor Sakura
[personal profile] cardcaptured

Ford and Syaoran first met in the Dollhouse, where Syaoran proved himself to be both clever and calm in the face of stressful situations. He's a serious and focused child, but he seems to have a soft spot for stories about adventure and teamwork. He and Dipper seem to have become close friends, something Ford is quite happy about.
The Doctor
Doctor Who
[personal profile] borntolove

He's just 'the Doctor', apparently. He seems to have a varied and interesting knowledge base which is enough to make him intriguing to Ford. However, he can be both casually affectionate and overly familiar at times, two things that make Ford a rather uncomfortable.
Lysithea von Ordelia
Fire Emblem
[personal profile] morethanachild

An interesting young woman with magic powers and an apparent passion for learning. She comes from a world with a feudal social structure, but that seems to have prepared her for some of the challenges Deerington has to offer. They didn't speak for several months after the events of October, but resumed contact briefly during Bill's portal project.
Michael
The Good Place
[personal profile] eudaimonikos

A demon. Former human torture enthusiast, current knife and window smashing enthusiast. Michael is a weird one and pretty forthcoming about his weirdness, so of course Ford finds him delightful. He's more helpful than Ford would have originally guessed a demon to be, but of course that's just another interesting point in his favor.
Lev
The Last of Us
[profile] bowleiver

A young scavenger from some sort of post-apocalyptic society. In addition, he seems to have been raised in some sort of anti-technology cult. He has a real talent for asking questions in the bluntest way possible, but Ford finds him to be agreeable company all the same. He's proven himself to be highly reliable in a variety of different situations.
Ritsuka Aoyagi
Loveless
[personal profile] in_loveless_memory

A highly intelligent young man and a good friend of Dipper's. He's another one that Ford doesn't know too well, but he's sincere (albeit in a very blunt way) and level-headed enough that Ford appreciates his perspective and company.
Gerard Keay
The Magnus Archives
[personal profile] poorlydied

A friend of Ozpin's and an asshole. Gerry threatened Ford with unspecified harm if he hurt Oz and somehow knew more about Ford's past than should have been possible. Ford doesn't know what Gerry was expecting him to do to Ozpin, nor how he seemed to know about his past with Bill, but he does know that if he never sees him again it'll be too soon. (Who's Gertrude, though...?)
Glitch
Original
[personal profile] glitchinthesystem

A friend of the entire Pines family and one of the few people in Deerington that Ford has directly told about Bill. Glitch is probably a little too quick on the draw, but he's sincere and straightforward and unafraid of sharing his opinion. Ford trusts Glitch to have his back and, more critically, trusts him to have Dipper and Stan's as well. He's become a regular and welcome fixture in the Pines household and catching him raiding the fridge uninvited is a common enough occurence that it no longer registers as odd on Ford's radar.
Vira-Lorr
Record of Agarest War
[personal profile] onerthes

Deerington veterans seem to be rare, and Ford has yet to meet anyone who's been around as long as Vira-Lorr. She's calm, intelligent, and matter-of-fact, all of which are more than enough to class her as a potential ally. She also has three eyes, which is just neat!
James Ironwood
RWBY
[personal profile] tinpotdicktator

One of the many Remnant natives that have been drawn into Deerington. Ford accurately pegged James as a military man when they first met, though his role as a headmaster came as a surprise. Ford has had a mostly positive relationship with James so far, but apparently his relationship with everyone else from Remnant is a bit strained. Ford isn't going to be putting any distance between the two of them, but he has been warned to be cautious.
Oscar Pine
RWBY
[personal profile] justoscar

Ozpin's apprentice, or something like that. Ford's not entirely sure what sort of relationship the two of them have, admittedly, but it doesn't really matter. Oscar himself is a polite and even-keeled enough to have left an excellent impression on Ford. Plus, he brings the house casseroles sometimes! He's someone Ford feels comfortable calling an ally, though he's not necessarily someone Ford would rely on in a fight.
Ozpin
RWBY
[personal profile] clocktowers

Ozpin was originally just one of many interesting people in Deerington, a folklorist and monster hunter that could be relied upon to help with research trips and provide interesting conversation. Since then their relationship has gone from acquaintances to friends to romantic partners. No one is more surprised by that latest development than Ford, who hasn't allowed himself to get truly invested in a non-familial relationship in decades. Ford thinks he's approaching the situation tentatively but the truth is that he and Ozpin have become very close. While there's no one Ford cares for or trusts as much as he does his family, Ozpin is near the top of the list for non-family members and he is, without competition, Ford's closest confidant among his Deerington acquaintances.
Qrow Branwen
RWBY
[personal profile] bolstafir

A bird. Or at least, that's what Ford thought he was. Turns out the unusually intelligent crow that Ford spend months attempting to capture is named Qrow (yes, really) and not only is he actually a person, he's a good friend of Ozpin's and Ruby's uncle. He also has the ability to manipulate probability just by existing which is one of the most interesting powers Ford's ever witnessed. He seems kind of touchy about it, though...
Ruby Rose
RWBY
[personal profile] clickclickbloom

Another Huntress from Remnant and someone Ford has become quite fond of. Ruby's bright, exuberant nature reminds him of Mabel - always a good thing - and she's proven herself to be a reliable ally. On top of that, she's a talented weaponsmith and has already armed both Stan and Dipper with some of her wares. She's definitely a weird one, but weird is good in Ford's opinion.
Salem
RWBY
[personal profile] easilyswayed

Ozpin once told Ford a story about a woman who lost her lover and defied the gods to bring him back, only to be cursed with immortality for her 'insolence'. Grief stricken and furious, she turned her attention towards the task of destroying humanity in the hopes of finally being allowed to rest. Ford now has enough context to know that the lover in the story was Ozpin himself, and that the woman was Salem... and also his new next door neighbor. Ford initially thought of her as being strangely intense and powerful but no more dangerous than anyone else in town. Since being warned by Ozpin, he's resolved to be a bit more cautious around her.
Usagi Tsukino
Sailor Moon
[personal profile] lightthedarkness

A bright, cheerful young woman that reminds Ford of Mabel. He doesn't know her very well, but his opinion of her is undeniably positive. This has, of course, only improved since she managed to somehow destroy Bill in a fight.
Varian
Tangled
[personal profile] droptheious

Alchemist, fellow nerd, and a friend of both Fern and Glitch. Varian is not only responsible for producing the Antidote, he also taught Ford how to make it. He reminds Ford a bit of Fiddleford, and though that was just the raccoon at first that impression has only grown since then. Varian might be young, but he's intelligent and (relatively) calm and always willing to talk science or discuss theories. He clearly feels terribly guilty about his role in assisting Bill in building the portals, something Ford can't fault him feeling - even though he's of the opinion that it's not really Varian's fault.
