Stanley Pines

Twin Brother

"Are you sayin' you need someone to help you sail around the world in the adventure of a lifetime?"

Ford's twin brother. The two of them were estranged for most of Ford's life, with Ford dismissing Stan as a selfish idiot whose only talents were lying, cheating, and mooching off other people. Now, Ford realizes that Stan is an incredibly selfless man willing to sacrifice anything and everything for his family, up to and including his own mind. Ford has come to deeply regret both his previous mindset and their estrangement and has promised himself that he'll spend 'the rest of his days' repairing their relationship.

They've made progress, and a lot of it, but those plans are now on hold. Stan is no longer in Trench and Ford has been left feeling despondent and adrift in his absence. He knows they'll meet each other again one day, but he's haunted by the thought that this could be the start of another 40 years apart.

Dipper Pines
Gravity Falls
[personal profile] ghostharasser
Nephew

"You think you can scare me!? Do your worst! Nothing in this universe is gonna take away my uncle! So go ahead! Give me what you've got!"

Ford's nephew and a neurotic, anxious wreck of a child, but also someone that's brave, driven, loyal, intelligent, and wise beyond his years. Ford sees an incredible amount of potential Dipper and wants to help him reach it through whatever means necessary. In the meantime, though, Ford is already overwhelmingly proud of him. Though he sees a kindred spirit in Dipper, he's relieved to see that Dipper is much less foolish than Ford was and clearly understands the importance of family.

Dipper has grown up a lot since arriving in Deerington, and subsequently Trench, to the extent that Ford often feels like there's not much he can actually do to support him. Still, he's proud of the person Dipper is becoming and excited to see where he goes from here.

Mabel Pines
Gravity Falls
[personal profile] sparklehorror
Niece

"Thanks, Grunkle Ford, but today I learned that morality is relative!"

Ford's niece and Dipper's twin sister. Mabel is a bright, exuberant, creative girl and, much like Dipper, Ford thinks the world of her. Despite that he hasn't always treated her fairly, and he's very aware of the fact that his behavior towards her played a major role in Weirdmageddon playing out the way he did. Thanks to a memory exchange with Dipper, he's also had a chance to witness her distress over Ford offering Dipper (and just Dipper) an apprenticeship. To say he feels guilty about the whole situation is a significant understatement, but it's not something either of them have discussed yet.

In the meantime, they've developed a comfortable camaraderie over their shared hobbies in Trench. It's taken longer than it did with Dipper, but he now views Mabel as a kindred spirit of a different more artistic sort.

Bill Cipher
Gravity Falls
[personal profile] tetractys
It's Complicated

"We'll meet again. Don't know where, don't know when. But I know we'll meet again some sunny day."

Ford thinks his relationship with Bill is straightforward and simple: Bill is a monster and Ford wants nothing to do with him. Of course, it's not that easy and never could be. While Bill has caused Ford and his family a great deal of harm, there was a time where Ford considered him a close friend. Bill is bad news and Ford knows this, but Ford can never completely move on from everything that happened.

Bill showing up in Deerington, getting Dipper and Ford killed, and vanishing shortly thereafter did not help.

Fern
Adventure Time
[personal profile] laminae

A half-plant person and a good friend of the Pines Family. Though Ford is still of the opinion that Fern is probably still a little too gung-ho about combat and dangerous situations, he's still willing to consider him a trustworthy ally. Fern had a close relationship with Stan before the latter disappeared, so Ford feels an obligation to keep an eye on him for Stan's sake.
Mako
Avatar: The Legend of Korra
[personal profile] arclightning

A serious and thoughtful young man that Ford increasingly thinks of as a reliable conversation partner. They've spoken several times about the Dream, Trench, and Ford's own experiences in the multiverse, and Mako always seems to have something interesting or insightful to add.
Willow Rosenberg
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
[personal profile] frogfear

Ford and Willow first met when Willow (not entirely inaccurately) blamed Ford for Ozpin's death at the Pthumerian Queen's hand and tried to revenge murder him in response. Despite that really awkward start, their relationship has improved considerably since then. He sees a lot of his best and worst tendencies in Willow, so while their relationship isn't nearly formal enough for him to think of himself as her mentor Willow is still a good friend. He tries to help her out when he can. If pressed to name a Trench acquaintance he trusts the most, Willow would be one of the first names to spring to mind.
Adaine Abernant
Fantasy High
[personal profile] adaine

A relative newcomer to Trench. Ford doesn't know her very well yet, but she seems curious about the world and amenable to hijinks - and excellent combination, in Ford's opinion.
Lysithea von Ordelia
Fire Emblem
[personal profile] morethanachild

An interesting young woman with magic powers and an apparent passion for learning. She comes from a world with a feudal social structure, but that seems to have prepared her for some of the challenges Deerington has to offer. They haven't spoken since the Dream ended, but last Ford heard she opened up a bakery. He's taking that as a sign that she's doing well.
Michael
The Good Place
[personal profile] eudaimonikos

A demon. Former human torture enthusiast, current knife and window smashing enthusiast. Michael is a weird one and pretty forthcoming about his weirdness, so of course Ford finds him delightful. He's more helpful than Ford would have originally guessed a demon to be, but of course that's just another interesting point in his favor.
Karkat Vantas
Homestuck
[personal profile] klawful

A very rude but intelligent and informative individual. Ford barely knows anything about Karkat himself, but he's learned a good deal about his culture. Even better, honestly.
Dib Membrane
Invader Zim
[personal profile] zib

A strange child with strange interests, or as Ford thinks of him: a kindred spirit. Dib is a clever kid with some crazy ideas and little apparent fear of the consequences of said ideas. A dangerous but admirable combination.
Lev
The Last of Us
[profile] bowleiver

A young scavenger from some sort of post-apocalyptic society. In addition, he seems to have been raised in some sort of anti-technology cult. He has a real talent for asking questions in the bluntest way possible, but Ford finds him to be agreeable company all the same.

Unfortunately he seems to have vanished from Trench. Ford hopes he's doing alright out there in the ocean.
"Sasha Buckler"
The Locked Tomb
[personal profile] necrolord

A necromancer with an easy-going personality and an a fondness for games - or at least, a willingness to play them. He's cagey about sharing his real name, which should probably be more of a red flag than it is. He doesn't seem to mind Ford falling him by his tabletop character's name, however, so Ford doesn't worry about it. For now.
Gideon Nav
The Locked Tomb
[personal profile] lipochrome

Red-haired jock that likes coffee and isn't even slightly afraid of trying out some potentially cursed food items. It's a shame that Stan never got a chance to meet her.
Anna
Nier: Automama (CRAU)
[personal profile] hauntedsavior

A somber young woman with an interesting perspective on both the Pthumerians and Trench as a whole. They've only spoken over the network, but their conversations have been interesting ones.
Glitch
Original
[personal profile] glitchinthesystem

A friend of the entire Pines family and one of the few people in Trench that Ford has directly told about Bill. Glitch is probably a little too quick on the draw, but he's sincere and straightforward and unafraid of sharing his opinion. He's become a regular and welcome fixture in the Pines household and catching him raiding the fridge uninvited is a common enough occurence that it no longer registers as odd on Ford's radar. Glitch disappeared from Trench shortly after Stan did. Ford hasn't really had time to process it, but the loss weighs on him.
Vira-Lorr
Record of Agarest War
[personal profile] onerthes

Deerington veterans seem to be rare, and Ford has yet to meet anyone who's been around as long as Vira-Lorr. She's calm, intelligent, and matter-of-fact, all of which are more than enough to class her as a potential ally. She also has three eyes, which is just neat! Fortunately, she seems to have made the jump from Deerington to Trench, where she and Ford have maintained their casual friendship.
Oscar Pine
RWBY
[personal profile] justoscar

Ozpin's successor, Dipper's boyfriend, and someone Ford generally has an agreeable relationship with.Things got a little dicey after Ford's breakup with Ozpin but their relationship has since smoothed into something amiable. He feels pretty bad about how poorly he treated Oscar after the reveal that he had been covering for Ozpin, but the young man seems to have forgiven him.
Ozpin
RWBY
[personal profile] clocktowers

Ozpin was originally just one of many interesting people in Deerington, a folklorist and monster hunter that could be relied upon to help with research trips and provide interesting conversation. He and Ford's relationship developed from acquaintances to friends to romantic partners, and Ozpin became Ford's closest confidant among his Deerington acquaintances.

Then, thanks to a trick of Deerington's resurrection cycle, Ozpin reincarnated in Ford's head, lied about what he was capable of in such a position, and then forcibly took control of Ford's body, effectively possessing him. To say that this was a massive violation of Ford's boundaries and reminded him of Bill in the worst way imaginable would be a huge understatement. He and Ford had a fight, followed immediately by a breakup, followed by nearly half a year of avoiding one another at all costs.

Ford wanted to keep it like that but their relationship now is... more complicated. Avoiding one another in Trench has proved difficult and placing so much distance between himself and the people of Remnant isn't wise. Ford is tentatively warming up to the idea of truly making peace with Ozpin, but he's determined to never trust him again.
Qrow Branwen
RWBY
[personal profile] bolstafir

A bird. Or at least, that's what Ford thought he was. Turns out the unusually intelligent crow that Ford spend months attempting to capture is named Qrow (yes, really) and not only is he actually a person, he's a good friend of Ozpin's and Ruby's uncle. He also has the ability to manipulate probability just by existing which is one of the most interesting powers Ford's ever witnessed. He seems kind of touchy about it, though...

Qrow is someone else Ford treated with great suspicion after Ozpin's betrayal. They relationship has started to recover, but more slowly than he and Oscar's.
Ruby Rose
RWBY
[personal profile] onekindsoul

Another Huntress from Remnant and someone Ford has become quite fond of. Ruby's bright, exuberant nature reminds him of Mabel - always a good thing - and she's proven herself to be a reliable ally. She's definitely a weird one, but weird is good in Ford's opinion. She was recently forced to kill Dipper after he slipped into Beasthood, something she clearly feels an enormous amount of remorse over. Ford, in turn, feels awful that she was put into that position in the first place, and has been thinking of ways to make it up to her.

Though Ruby is too young and reminds him too much of Mabel for Ford to consider her a peer, he has a tremendous amount of respect for Ruby. If pressed to name a Trench acquaintance he trusts the most, hers is the name that would occur to him alongside Willow's.
Usagi Tsukino
Sailor Moon
[personal profile] lightthedarkness

A bright, cheerful young woman that reminds Ford of Mabel. He doesn't know her very well, but his opinion of her is undeniably positive. This has, of course, only improved since she managed to somehow destroy Bill in a fight. They don't speak often, but she's a warm and reassuring fixture in the city.
Varian
Tangled
[personal profile] droptheious

Alchemist, fellow nerd, Fern's boyfriend, and another Pines family ally. He reminds Ford a bit of Fiddleford, and though that was just the raccoon at first that impression has only grown since then. Varian might be young, but he's intelligent and (relatively) calm and always willing to talk science or discuss theories. He clearly feels terribly guilty about his role in assisting Bill in building the portals, something Ford can't fault him for - even though he's of the opinion that it's not really Varian's fault.
"Shannon"
Umineko
[personal profile] forwantofahorse

A creative young woman with a passion for games and storytelling. Ford doesn't know her very well, but he enjoys her company and will rarely turn down a game with her.
