The Pthumerians were an ancient, eldritch race. Their exact nature isn't known, but they had unusual powers and were sometimes worshiped as gods. The Pthumerians became fascinated with humanity, and the Pthumerian Queen developed a plan to create a god-like creature by combining the power of the Pthumerians with the creativity and imagination of humanity. She believed this god would be able to remake the world into something better than its current state.
The Pthumerian Queen and another Pthumerian, Mother Superior, were close companions, to all appearances. Though Mother Superior protested the plan, she and the Pthumerian Queen had a daughter named Cynthia. Cynthia married a human man named Roderick Sodder, and together they had a daughter they named Julia. This is who's being referred to whenever someone speaks of 'Sodder', and she was the ultimate end goal of the Pthumerian Queen's plan.
However, Sodder's birth caused reality to warp in uncontrollable ways. Doug, the man we call the Dog Keeper, tried to help her, and her mother eventually sacrificed herself to try to keep her powers in check. When these measures failed, Mother Superior deemed her too dangerous and had her placed into a coma in order to protect humanity. However, this caused reality to shatter entirely, driving Roderick into madness and creating the Deerington dreamscape. Ramona was once a Sleeper like the rest of us, the first one that Sodder drew into the dream, and played a major role in shaping it into what it is today.
[ Ford pauses for a moment. Once he's certain he's covered it all, he adds: ]
All of the people I mentioned above, excluding the Pthumerian Queen, are represented by one of the eggs we received. We're supposed to decide what to do with each of them based on what we've learned so far.
