[ Okay, okay. He's still annoyed but this could be way worse. Ruby is someone Ford actually likes, and at least he can be certain she wasn't doing it to be mean. ]
Yes, it was me. Ruby all along! Uh- Sorry, I didn't tell you like sooner. Oz didn't want people to worry and didn't want it to seem like he had a babysitter looking out for him.
Okay. Okay. That's fair. I push you or anything, but I hope you both had a good time. Not like a GOOD time good time. Because gross. Old guys doing their taxes. Yuck. But like ate dinner and enjoyed a conversation or something.
Deets are details. Which I'm guessing you don't want to go into. Which is a-okay!
I had something else to ask you. If you aren't too busy.
An extremely poor understanding of medical science.
It was common practice in Europe to create antidotes and tinctures from human body parts. Powdered skull to help with migraines and epilepsy, blood for vitality, and so on.
Mummies were just a convenient source of raw materials.
[ There's so much Ford wants to know, but you know what? For once he's fine leaving well enough alone. He doesn't want to open up a floodgate of more questions from Ruby, so he'll just get the 'deets' from Ozpin later. ]
SHEESH I'M NOT A DOCTOR OF ANYTHING AND EVEN I COULDA FIGURED OUT THAT WASN'T GONNA WORK
"YEAH SURE LET'S EAT THE DEAD GUY! THIS GUY WHO ISN'T ALIVE ANYMORE IS SURE GONNA MAKE US FEEL MORE LIVELY!!! DEFINITELY WON'T GIVE US ANYTHING HE DIED OF EITHER!"
[On this day, Ford Pines made the right decision.]
So after everything with the portals I kind of realized that the whole one eye thing isn’t really working for me.
So I’m trying to put together a prosthetic but it’s kind of out of my usual line of work. I was hoping to get some help from you and maybe Varian to help me build it.
I’ve asked Genera Ironwood for some more information on his prosthetics work and I’ve got a Doctor, Shuu the Bird to help with installing it.
Yeah, sorry. Old habit from back at home. Kind of trying to drop the general bit around here.
[Definitely not because she doesn't have a lot of respect for him after abandoning Mantle in his not so distant future. No sir-ee.]
Yeah. I know it's not exactly his line of expertise either, and it's certainly not mine. But if we're following some notes from someone who is like nearly 50% prosthetic I feel like we're probably on the right track.
From what I've seen I couldn't trust a group more to attach something to my face.
Yeah. He looked like a pigeon. Honestly I kind of wish Dr.McCoy was still here but the bird said he was a brain surgeon and I'm working with that I've got here???
It's Oscar. I learned something the other day that I was hoping you could explain to me. It's something that a very weird contact we both have said, and you know this contact better than Oz does.
It might be a good idea to meet in person.
Probably away from Dipper. I don't wanna keep secrets, but I don't want to worry him over whats probably nothing.
[ When Oscar puts it like that, there's only so many things it could be about - which means it's not something Ford can afford to brush off even if he wanted to. ]
Talking in person is fine. Do you have somewhere you'd like to meet?
Now you definitely have to let me take it out for a spin sometime, is that okay?
I heard you were going to let Ironwood hop on your cane and I totally want to call dibs before him because he's so freakin' big and metally that he's probably going to break it before anyone else gets a turn.
Okay. Okay. You can't just lead with that. What IS the strangest doctor you've ever met?
I think I've managed to gather everything up. Ironwood was nice enough to lend me some materials from home too. Hopefully some hard light dust will do the trick for the screen.
Oh boy, what does this mean? He's learned that Ruby's vocabulary choices can be odd, to say the very least, but even with that in mind he can't think of any meanings that aren't extremely euphemistic (which he finds unlikely) or extremely literal (which might be more likely, but he has no idea how that would work) and after a long moment of debating he has to admit that trying to figure it out is a fool's errand and he needs to admit defeat. ]
